Continuing Production and Social Distancing
Social Distancing is going to be a topic we will be discussing for at least another year, or so we think. This is something that is relatively new to us as a culture, especially in our work practices. That being said in order to keep your employee’s safe, and avoid spreading COVID-19, there are many actions that can help. Aside from the mandate of having to wear a mask while at work, social distancing is the greatest way to keep people safe. Six feet of distance is something that for most of us will mean changes to how our facilities are set up, how work stations are arranged, and how many work stations will be needed. A very helpful tool to make sure your operations run smoothly and you are prepared is to create a plan for continued operations during the pandemic, or for reopening if you have been closed. This plan doesn’t have to be pages long and super in depth, but it should roughly outline what steps are being taken now, and how those might look going forward. One important aspect of this is marking your facility for social distancing on the production line, and in your break area’s. The picture below will show how you can effectively use marking tape to achieve that.

Another solution for achieving the “distancing” of social distancing without actually following the six foot rule is to use physical barriers. This may sound tricky but I’m sure you’ve already been shopping at a grocery store and have seen the plexi glass blockers put in place to protect the cashiers, and you from them. The idea of using that in an industrial or manufacturing setting isn’t always practical, but there are still good solutions more applicable to manufacturing environments. An inexpensive and easy to work with solution is plastic sheeting. This can be hung from existing structures in the plant, or used with other creative solutions based on the area. Welding screens also make good barriers depending on the location and area to block off. Below are also some options for other barriers, and custom floor markings too.
